Calling all journalists, winemakers, wine industry and hospitality workers, collectors, enthusiasts, and anyone else we might be missing: we're excited to officially announce that we're going analogue with our first-ever magazine. Think: short-form articles, long-form articles, cartoons, advice columns, illustrations, and anything else we come up with between now and when the magazine get sent off to the printer. Editorial brief
Essential Details Format: Print magazine (Fall Issue) Wine-focused, food-adjacent. Multiple pitches per writer are allowed and encouraged, but they must be submitted separately. Writers from all over the world are welcome to submit a pitch. Story Lengths: - Short-Form: 600–1,200 words - Long-Form: 1,500–3,000 words Disclaimers - Submission does not guarantee assignment or publication. - If accepted, SWURL will work with you through an editorial process (edits, fact-checking, etc.) - Writers retain credit for their work; additional terms will be outlined upon assignment. - We do not accept previously published work. - We not accept PR-driven pitches, or stories originating from sponsored travel or brand-led initiatives. - Writers must (big must) disclose any relevant affiliations about businesses, individuals, or products with which they have a direct professional or financial relationship (I.e. if you work for a wine importer, we will not accept any pitch that focuses on a winemaker in your portfolio). What We're Looking For - Essays that connect wine to culture, art, music, or personal experience. - Deep dives into regions, cities, or emerging scenes. - Stories about shifts in how people drink, buy, or think about wine. - Profiles / features on winemakers, importers, retailers, or industry-workers. - Connections between food and wine. - Unexpected takes surrounding the economics and behind the scenes of the industry supported by reputable sources. Ideas outside of the above are encouraged. Rates Short pieces / essays: $250–$500 Long-form: $500–$1,000 (depending on scope and reporting)
